Zazen – Zen Meditation
Zen meditation, Zazen, is a physical and mental discipline in which we create a laboratory to study the self. As in any laboratory, we eliminate variables or distractions by being still and sitting in silence. There are many forms of Zen meditation from following our breathing to the 8 levels of absorption (samadhi/ jhana), to the penetrating inquiry of koan study, through shikan-taza (sitting as this very moment) to Pure Being beyond form and formlessness. We begin by sitting still in silence, breathing fully and mentally focused on the sensations in the kikai meridian point in the low belly moving with our inhalation and exhalation.
Our Zazen period is followed by a short dharma talk.
Please consider attending a Zazen orientation before your first session.
